Cemetery Booklet Celebrates 150 years

The Chesham Cemetery BookletThe Friends of Chesham Cemetery have published a booklet celebrating 150 years of Chesham Cemetery. The booklet provides a wealth of information on the site’s history and how and why the cemetery came to be established upon a parcel of fields owned by local farmers. It comes in full colour, with many beautiful photographs of the grounds, their flora and the historic chapel.

A variety of historical facts are provided, including the horror of a typhoid outbreak in 1871, and a guide to the local dignitaries who have been laid to rest in Chesham. A description of the abundant wildlife in the cemetery may surprise many readers and the Friends explain their work to restore a section of the cemetery to a wildflower meadow.

The booklet is available for free, but all donations are gratefully received and any funds raised will help to support the Friends’ important conservation work. Copies are available from the Town Hall. Please call 01494 774842 or email admin@chesham.gov.uk for more information.

The Friends would like to thank Chesham Town Council, Chiltern District Council, the Chesham Society, Chesham Mosque and Church View Funeral Service, whose contributions made the booklet possible.
