Planning for Chesham - Have Your Say
A view of Chesham as it is now
Chesham Town Council is holding a public meeting to discuss plans that will see a proposed 650 new houses built in Chesham by 2026. The meeting will be held at Chesham Town Hall on
Monday 15th March at
7 pm. Chesham residents are encouraged to come along to find out how housing plans (known as the Core Strategy) will affect the town and to have their say.
The Core Strategy is part of the Local Development Framework (LDF), which is a new way of planning being introduced by central government. The LDF for this area is being developed by
Chiltern District Council, as the planning authority. The Core Strategy sets out the district council’s overall vision for the development of Chiltern. It also identifies which areas it thinks are the best locations for new homes and other development until 2026. The South East regional plan has determined that the district council must plan for and provide 145 new dwellings per year, together with the infrastructure to support it. The Core Strategy concentrates these homes in Chesham, Chalfont St. Peter, Amersham and Little Chalfont rather than spreading the new houses more widely across the district.
Two major sites for development have been identified in Chesham; the old Hospital site in Waterside and the Amersham & Wycombe College campus on Lycrome Road. However, nearly 100 other sites in Chesham have been earmarked for potential development, many of which are in the Green Belt and AONB.
The meeting will consider what effects the new houses may have on the town, including road congestion, air pollution, water supply and sewerage, affordable housing and community facilities. Following the meeting, the town council will feedback its views and those of residents to the district council.
