The results of the Thames and Chilterns regional round of Britain in Bloom were released this week and saw Chesham achieve a highly creditable Silver Award. Chesham in Bloom team members went to the awards ceremony in Newbury to collect the town's certificate and receive feedback.

The town's campaign was commended for its excellent community spirit and we scored particularly highly in “Development and Continuity” and “Communication and Education”. We also triumphed in the Environmental Responsibility section – with particularly good scores in “Conservation and biodiversity” and “Local heritage”. The regeneration project at Meades Water Gardens to restore the chalk stream and make the gardens more accessible and attractive for its visitors was regarded as a highlight by the judges.

Waterside County Combined School was highly commended in the schools competition for the huge variety of tasks undertaken by its gardening club, including growing prize-winning vegetables on the school's vegetable patch, the restoration of a memorial garden and planting of native trees in the grounds.

Chesham in Bloom is seeking more members to help its campaign and will be holding its first AGM on the 22nd October at Chesham Town Hall. If you would like to find out more, contact Kathryn Graves on policy@chesham.gov.uk.
