During July, the Chesham in Bloom judges had the onerous task of judging the Front Garden and Blooming Business competitions. Front gardens were judged in terms of colour, style, maintenance and sustainability. After a gruelling two days of judging across the length and breadth of the town, the winners were declared:
Best Large Front Garden: Mrs Karen Barnard, 9 Fullers Close
Best Small Front Garden: Mrs Sylvia Greenwood, 15 Rose Drive
Thanks to her unusual garden with its interesting selection of plants, Mrs Barnard has won £50 worth of shrubs from
Farnham Common Nursery. Mrs Greenwood’s stunning blue and white garden theme won her £50 of garden vouchers donated by
Paradigm Housing.
The container competition was closely contested, with a variety of interesting containers ranging from home-made baskets to a penny farthing bicycle! The winner was Mr Crompton of 16 Hillside, with a dramatic and colourful array of containers, winning him a bottle of Champagne donated by
Chesham Waitrose.

he business competition saw entries from pubs, supermarkets, restaurants and retailers, all contributing to a floral street scene that impressed the Royal Horticultural Society judges on their visit to the town on the 16th July. The winning business this year, receiving cinema tickets from
The Elgiva, was the Queens Head in Church Street.
The Chesham in Bloom competitions are growing in popularity each year, and for 2009 we had a record number of entries in all categories. The aim of the Front Garden, Container and Blooming Business competitions is to highlight all the fantastic floral displays on show around town – and to prove that no matter how large or small your garden, or even if you only have room for a hanging basket, anyone can brighten up their part of town with the creative use of plants.
