ChAP Supports Chesham Projects
ChAP has provided seed-corn funding to help local projects get off the ground. Examples of these projects are listed below. Walkers Are Welcome were provided with funding to assist with publicity at the beginning of their campaign. Chesham became the first Walkers Are Welcome town in the Chilterns in 2010 and have been successfully promoting walking in the area. See the Walkers Are Welcome page for more information.
Chesham Museum obtained funding to purchase leaflet racks as part of their move to premises in Market Square.
Funding was provided to aid with publicity for the first Chesham Local Produce Market. The aim of the market was to raise awareness of the fantastic local produce available around the Chesham area. The market was such a great success that a local produce market is now held in Market Square every month.
Pond Park Community Association was awarded a grant towards its Shelley Gardens project, which has helped to transform a neglected green space in Pond Park, with public art, planting and tree work. The project has achieved regional recognition in the Thames and Chilterns It's Your Neighbourhood Awards.
ChAP funding was put towards the Chesham4Fairtrade fifth birthday celebrations. Not only was this all day event a celebration of the town achieving five years as a Fairtrade Town, but activities including a live link to Africa achieved further awareness raising of the importance of Fairtrade.
Chesham Asian Welfare Society were given funding towards an educational event to raise awareness of the educational attainment issues facing the Asian community.
Funding helped to support the Chesham in Bloom campaign, which has carried out a variety of environmental work around the town, including bulb planting, the creation of a new raised flowerbed at the Amersham Road entrance to the town, support for school gardening clubs and town wide litter picks.
Shed@ThePark were able to purchase musical instruments to facilitate the work of a music therapist thanks to funding from ChAP.
ChAP funding supported Rafe's Day in the Park, a day of activities and music for people of all ages set in Lowndes Park.
Little Spring PTA were provided with funding to facilitate a start of term event to encourage parents into the school and aid with integration.
Long jump sand, athletic numbers and results cards were purchased with ChAP funds to support the Chesham Sports Festival, which encourages the participation of young people in sport.
Financial support was given to Chiltern Racial Equality Council's At the Edge Project, providing diversionary football to young people in the Pond Park area.
Funding was provided to Walking With the Suffragettes, for the production of a Women's Suffrage Heritage Trail in Chesham.
ChAP supported Age Concern Bucks' Good Neighbour Scheme to support older people living in their own homes.
