About us: The Chiltern Society is a local charity, committed to conserving the Chilterns for the enjoyment of everyone. It organises a weekly programme of walk and cycle rides, and cares for a growing number of heritage sites and nature reserves which it opens to the public. There are 2 volunteer groups working on footpath maintenance and improving footpath access by installing kissing gates in the place of stiles, 9 conservation groups working on Chilterns woodland, rivers and commons, and the charity also campaigns on many planning issues affecting the Chilterns. With more than 6,700 members and over 500 volunteers, the charity is funded by income from membership and donations; it receives no statutory funding. We welcome new members and volunteers. Members receive our quarterly magazine, free entry to our sites and discounts at many local attractions and shops.
The Chiltern Society welcomes new volunteers; we have lots of activities and therefore a wide range of opportunities to get involved. We have 2 conservation groups in the Chesham area working on Captain’s Wood Chesham, and also on Chesham Bois Common and Hyde Heath Common. Details of all work parties are available on the Chiltern Society website and new volunteers are very welcome. In addition we welcome volunteers in our office in Chesham who help us with all the administration of running our busy charity. We are interested in expanding our work with schools/young people and in expanding our activities in the countryside; maybe you are interested in geocaching, cycling, orienteering and would like to join us to get more people involved?
