Friends of Lowndes Park
Some of the Friends volunteering in the Upper Park
The Friends of Lowndes Park is a large and vibrant group of residents who have input into the park's management and regularly volunteer to make physical improvements to the park's appearance.
The Friends group was established in 2007 and boasts over 100 members. The group's Chairman is Michael Rowan, who won the 2009 Mayoral People's Award in recognition of his amazing work to galvanise the community's affection for Lowndes Park into direct action to enhance it.
There is a
Friends of Lowndes Park web site full of news and information about the park and the Friends' activities and where you can download an application form to become a member. Membership is £5 per household per year, and corporate members can join for £20 per year.
The Friends hold monthly working parties in the park on a Sunday to tackle a variety of tasks, such as pruning, blub-planting and litter picking. But many volunteers can be found working in the park at other times, particularly in the Wildflower Area that the Friends directly manage.
