Commemorating VE Day
Regrettably, COVID-19 has meant that it has been necessary to cancel the events planned by the town council and the Royal British Legion to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the end of World War Two in Europe.
We are hoping to move these event to coincide with VJ Day later in the year, with a provisional street party planned for Saturday 15th August, although this is subject to COVID-19 restrictions at the time.
In the mean time, we would like to encourage residents to participate in the Nation's Toast to the Heroes of World War Two, taking place at 3pm on Friday 8th May. From the safety of your own home, please join in, by standing and raising a glass with the following toast: "To those who gave so much, we thank you."
There are full instructions on the BBC web site to make VE 75 bunting that you can hang in your windows. This makes a great lockdown activity to do with children.
