The countdown is on for Chesham’s Christmas Lights Switch On! Come down to the High Street on the evening of Friday 25th November and you can enjoy music and dance from local performers, market stalls, fairground rides and late-night shopping.
The Christmas lights will be switched on just after 6pm from the stage near Sainsbury’s. Town Mayor, Cllr Majid Ditta, said “This event is a great tradition in Chesham and I’m excited to be switching on the lights with the help of the cast of Sleeping Beauty, this year’s pantomime.”
Entertainment will be provided throughout the evening at the stage, from groups like The Theatre Shed, My Town Choir and the Elgiva Youth Theatre. Delicious food will be on sale from burgers to Thai food and samosas to fudge! And there’s a chance to support lots of local community groups holding stalls, like the scouts, Chiltern ToyBank and the Big Community Takeaway.
Around the Christmas Tree in The Broadway, there will be fairground rides and your little ones can marvel at the size of the Fire Engine on display. And, of course, it wouldn’t be Christmas without Father Christmas! He will be by the clocktower in his sleigh, waiting to discover what the children of Chesham want for Christmas this year.
There’s no need for footie-fans to feel torn about coming out on the night – we are turning on the lights earlier than normal, so there will be plenty of time to head to the High Street pubs to watch the England v. USA World Cup match! But, if you really can’t make it, the Chiltern Voice team will be providing some live programming from the event, on-line, on your smart speaker and on 107.4fm.
