Chesham in Bloom Needs You!

Chesham in Bloom volunteers planting flowerbeds

Chesham in Bloom is an amazing and fun volunteer campaign to improve the way that Chesham looks and how people feel about their town. Flowers are important, but there is so much more to Chesham in Bloom and you don't have to have green fingers to make a difference! With support from the Town Council and local organisations, people from all sections of Chesham’s community are working together to tidy and brighten up the town.

For 2017, for the first time ever, Chesham was a NATIONAL FINALIST in Britain in Bloom. We were so proud to have achieved a Silver Gilt Award at the national level.

The In Bloom team have helped to start up school gardening clubs, created new flower beds around the town, held litter picks and tidy-up days, refurbished the roundabout at the bottom of Amersham Road, established wildflower areas and planted hedgerows and trees. Have you seen the new flowerbed at the back of the library? That was us! Chesham in Bloom also run photographic competitions, spring and summer garden competitions and a school garden competition to get residents enjoying horticulture.

In July each year, the town is visited by RHS judges who mark the town in terms of horticultural achievement, environmental responsibility and community participation. We're compared with other large towns in the region such as Wokingham and awarded a Bronze, Silver, Silver Gilt or Gold Award each September depending on how well we do. However, the main purpose of the Chesham in Bloom campaign is to make real, physical improvements to the town.

Would you like to get involved and make Chesham a more beautiful place? Have you identified a project in town that we could get involved in? For more information, contact Colette Littley on 01494 774842 (Tuesday and Thursday, 10 am to 4.30 pm) or email colette.littley@chesham.gov.uk. You can also get involved on the Chesham in Bloom Facebook page or follow @CheshamInBloom on Twitter or @CheshamInBloom on Instagram.
