Revised in 2013, this beautiful 10-mile walk from Rickmansworth to Chesham with some of the best scenery in the Chilterns AONB. There are optional starting points from Chorleywood and Chalfont & Latimer Stations if you fancy a shorter walk.

Answer 5

A 7.5 mile walk skirting the outer fringes of the town, taking you into the heart of the local countryside. The walk passes 3 pubs and there is the opportunity to shorten the walk by returning to town from the perimeter.

Answer 6

A 5 mile walk taking you to the east of Chesham. Explore the rolling countryside between the town and the nearby villages of Tylers Hill, Ley Hill and Botley, as well as the River Chess.

Answer 7

A gentle 4 mile walk from Chesham to the nearby beech woods of Chesham Bois. See the sites of former water mills and discover the wildlife of the woods and River Chess. Halfway round you can take in more woodland on the return route.

An 8 mile walk exploring the parallel valleys to the west of Chesham, with curiously named tracks such as Herbert’s Hole. There are wonderful view across the town from Lowndes Park and the opportunity to detour to the medieval settlement at Redding Wick.

An 8.5 mile walk exploring the hidden corners of Buckinghamshire on the border with Hertfordshire. The route goes past historic farms, old pubs and a hill fort at Whelpley Hill. The walk also takes in Bovingdon airfield, where Clark Gable, James Stewart and William Holden were based during World War Two.

Answer 10

A 6 mile walk from Little Chalfont to Chesham. The route goes past Neptune Falls (the site of a medieval mill), the River Chess, the village of Latimer, the site of Canon’s Mill, Chesham Moor and the restored Meades Water Gardens.

Answer 11

An 8.5 mile walk from Chorleywood to Chesham. The route goes past Chenies Manor House (visited by both Henry VIII and Elizabeth I), the River Chess, Cowcroft Wood and Nature Reserve and Meades Water Gardens. On a clear day, there are fine views towards London from Martin Top Farm on this route, from which the Shard, Canary Wharf and Post Office Tower can be seen.

Answer 12

A 6.1 mile walk from Great Missenden to Chesham. The route takes in the Church of St Peter and St Paul, where Roald Dahl is buried in the churchyard, Hyde End (currently threatened by HS2), the 12th Century earthwork of Redding Wick Moat, the ancient Packhorse Trail of Blind Lane and Lowndes Park.

Answer 13

A 4.5 mile walk from Amersham to Chesham. The route includes the 1931 memorial to the 16th Century Amersham martyrs, the River Misbourne and the historic buildings of old Amersham, the ancientwoodland of Windmill Plantation and the Wey Lane Allotments and Workhouses.

Answer 14

A 4.9 mile walk covering the history of Chesham and Ley Hill. Points of interest include Cowcroft Wood and Nature Reserve, Tylers Hill, Trapps Lane, the River Chess and Duntons Brother Brickworks.
